Defective Takata airbags: UFC-Que Choisir warns Stellantis

Many millions of cars have been recalled over the years worldwide due to problems with airbags manufactured by Takata, a Japanese company which went bankrupt for this reason in recent years. Today June 24th, UFC-Que Choisir announced that it will warn the Stellantis group due to the high number of complaints received and the absence of alternatives proposed by the automotive group to resolve the situation.

Stellantis is increasingly under pressure in France over the Takata airbag affair

The UFC-Que Choisir also invites Stellantis to “adopt without delay, given the seriousness of the fatal malfunction identified, all measures capable of guaranteeing the consumer the fixing, within three months maximum, of an effective repair date.” While “vehicles that potentially endanger hundreds of thousands of consumers are still circulating in France”, the UFC-Que Choisir regretted that “the only response really provided by the company to the latter is to notify them not to drive their car, such an attitude is unacceptable” declared the organization in a statement published in recent hours.

We remember that in recent days Citroën announced the recall of 605,000 Citroën C3 and DS3 produced between 2009 and 2019. These cars could prove very dangerous for occupants, with the possibility of having airbags supplied by the company Takata which went bankrupt in 2017 which, as they deploy, project potentially deadly fragments (i.e. shrapnel) to the driver and passengers. At the moment, however, authorized workshops do not know how to repair these cars in the absence of a carefully studied and executed procedure. We will therefore see what news will arrive regarding this serious problem with the pressure on Stellantis increasing day after day.
