New incentives for LPG or methane cars: the retrofit bonus
Last May 25, the new 2024 car incentives for those who want to install methane or LPG fuel systems on your vehicle. It is called the “retrofit bonus” and is in force from 19 June 2024: starting from 10am yesterday, in fact, it is possible to get accredited through the reseller area and, at a later time, the start date for booking your contributions will be known . Unlike other incentives, for this reason it is not necessary to scrap an old vehicle and the ISEE is not taken into consideration.
The retrofit bonus provides the discount of 800 euros for the transition to methane e of 400 euros for the transition to LPG. The fundamental requirement is to have a category M1 vehicle with an emissions class not lower than Euro 4. Furthermore, the discount is valid only for the first installation of methane or LPG systems and not for the replacement of old systems.
How the conversion is done
To convert your car to methane or LPG you need to own a petrol car as this is the only one on which this operation can be carried out. Installation cost varies depending on the car model: normally, those that cost more are around 3 thousand euros for methane and 1500 euros for LPG.
The actual space available inside the car needs to be checked: the LPG and methane tank, in fact, they take up space and increase mass total of the car, so it is necessary to understand if the installation of these systems causes the loss of a passenger seat.
