In the book Lory recounts his days with Buckley: rehearsals, study sessions, contracts and promotional strategies. The manager’s thoughts and concerns accompany the story, showing how his figure will evolve over time, becoming a sort of adoptive father for the singer-songwriter – the father he never had. Precisely the difficult relationship with his father, Tim Buckley, a beloved singer-songwriter who abandoned Jeff and his mother and later died of an overdose, is one of the main themes of the book. “I have nothing to do with my father,” Jeff declared, completely waiving his royalties.

Jeff’s life and career were a continuum of ups and downs, enthusiasms and disappointments, great certainties and sudden second thoughts. With the first album “Grace” (1994) mass success arrives in an instant and from there the relationship with fans and fame becomes complex. In an instant it was on everyone’s lips, just like that Paul McCartney he invited himself to one of his concerts, Barbara Streisand he wanted it for one of his films Radiohead they were enlightened by one of his concerts to resume the recordings of their second album “The Bends” (1995).

The recordings of his second album, “Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk”, as is known, were interrupted due to an accident where the singer was killed at just 30 years old. The May 29, 1997, Buckley decided to dive dressed into the Mississippi to take a bath, then disappeared from sight following the passage of a boat. His body was found 6 days later under the Beale Street Bridge in Memphis. The event caused enormous sensation and media speculation around the world. The author, who has always excluded the reason for suicide or substance abuse, leaves a personal observation not without a veiled sense of guilt. According to Lory, in fact, Buckley’s gesture was in no way voluntary, but he had simply underestimated the consequences.
