The Exempla, a literary genre in vogue in the Middle Ages, were stories that aimed both to teach and to entertain. From that tradition, making a leap in time to today, they were chosen as the theme for the 9th edition of the Fermo sui libri exhibition, which takes place from Friday, 14 June, to 7 August. There are eight guests at this edition promoted by the Municipality with the artistic direction of Oriana Salvucci.

The questions

«Starting from the Exempla – comments Salvucci – and being at the beginning of the third millennium the aim is to raise questions, questions about the models to follow, the civil virtues to cultivate, the shared ideals that create that sense of community that he went missing. It is not a discussion focused on the past, but a dispute over the present and a comparison of projects for the future.”

All this will unfold over the eight evenings, starting from the first, next Friday, June 14, when Serena Dandini will be in Piazza del Popolo with “The Revenge of the Muses”, a reflection that starts from her latest volume in which women do not they are more the object of history, but the architects of their own destiny. “The history of the world”, seen not only with the eyes of the past but also with those of the future, will be told by Giordano Bruno Guerri on 27 June, in Piazzale Azzolino, where Luca Sommi will arrive on 3 July. Sommi will give a speech on “The most beautiful, why defend the Constitution”.

The reflections

Same location for Barbara Alberti’s new literary effort “Tremble, tremble, the witches are back”. «It is – explains Salvucci in the presentation – an intervention that seems like a battle cry». Aldo Cazzullo is the fifth author who will arrive in Piazzale Azzolino on 7 July to talk about “When we were masters of the world. Rome: the infinite empire”, from literature to history, passing through the common origins of the Roman Empire. “Grammancers. Imagining futures with words”, is the title of Vera Gheno’s speech, which will arrive on 9 July (Piazzale Azzolino). «Gheno – this is how the artistic director introduces her – is a skilled linguist, she says that language brings things to life. After her, the exquisite mind of Maurizio Ferraris will arrive on July 28th.” The latter, philosopher, academic and student of Gianni Vattimo and Jacques Derrida, in the church of San Filippo, will highlight how “Imbecility is a serious thing”. In doubt, due to some problems, the last guest, Donatella Di Cesare, with “Democracy and anarchy” (7 August).

Comments

Not just famous authors, because, with the collaboration of the Romolo Spezioli library, on some summer Fridays, in Piazza del Popolo, they will hold appointments with writers from the Marche region. Furthermore, on Thursday, announces director Maria Chiara Leonori, there will be «workshops for children, on the Exempla theme: I’m thinking of cartoons on stories, vices and virtues of the historical part of the library. Coloring cartoons.” While waiting for the appointments, all at 9.15 pm, except Cazzullo at 6.00 pm, there will be music by the Conservatory to which, concludes the councilor for Culture Micol Lanzidei, «my thanks go, as to the Carifermo Foundation for the support of this exhibition that the library has curated and carried out since the beginning”.
