Art in Cloister it was pure exaltation of creativity. The first edition of the visual and creative arts festival, held in Giovinazzo, in the Citadel of Culture, on 15 and 16 June by the Pro Loco, was born from a project idea proposed by Marina Mundo, Marianna Garofalo and Maria Grazia Centrone with the participation of Hamlin, association and creative space dedicated to the study and dissemination of comics and illustration, as well as a bookshop for children, and a Grafite school of comics, drawing and animation.

The two days of art proposed the creation of laboratories, lessons and workshops for adults and children for a very interesting and original contact with the world of art. In fact, the free animation workshop was held, basic techniques for creating animation by Benedetto Gemma, teacher of the Grafite comics school: on a simple sheet of paper the children drew animated frames following the precious indications of the expert teacher. Marina Mundo, Graphite teacher, also created a workshop in which she proposed creations based on manga techniques for children aged seven and up. The illustrator Domenico Bottalico, editorial editor and critic of the comic writing technique, held a highly appreciated specific talk, precisely on the contents of which he is a well-known expert, while the director and animation expert Enzo Piglionica spoke about his experience professional in this original and creative field.

The art extemporaneous
The workshops were combined with a rich extemporaneous presentation of visual and pictorial art in the corridors of the cloister where it was possible to get to know and observe the artists of our territory struggling with their creations. Extemporaneously: Gaetano Terlizzi, Antonella Depalma, Marina Mundo, Rosella Panaro (pannyloo), Mary Lamacchia,
Dalila Gelao with Domenico Garofalo, Katia Gentile, Luigi Leonardo Cascella, Luna Montatore. Teresa Marotta, Martina Neviera (junveriee), Dominga Longo (domi art world), Ornella Iacobbe (sherry’s art), Sara Torre, Fre Muraglia and Leonardo Pantaleo (Leonardo dellarge).
The artists were from Giovinazzo, Bari, Trani, Barletta, Altamura, Modugno and Bitonto. A boy originally from Barletta who lives in Rome arrived in Giovinazzo precisely to take part in the Pro Loco event. Extemporaneously, the artists created art in the cloister with watercolors, ink, tempera, charcoal, and pencils while visitors admired the situation created by the beauty of the different artistic styles that they could touch with their hands.

«The extemporaneous display of art, creativity and various visual arts by Apulian artists wanted to promote many talents, both from our city and from the regional territory», he stated Teresa Fiorentino, vice president of the Pro Loco, to disseminate many new artistic expressions present in our territory. The artist FreFfe has underlined with his dark art the principle of inclusiveness which with his graphic and artistic expression is a reference for the queer community. The well-known painter Katia Gentile has created and proposed paintings made with airbrushing, of which she is a great expert, not only on works of art but also on clothing. There are many creations on display to be admired.
«The result of this first edition can be defined as more than positive – he stated Marianna Garofalo, one of the three creators of the Arte inChiostro event. I want to address a good point in favor to the structure that hosted us. The artists are all satisfied; some of them, here for our event, are having their first artistic experience extemporaneous and on display. Some artists met at comics fairs, others met here and created networks and friendships. We too can draw positive feedback on what has been achieved. In the future we will be able to think of a second edition that can always be used free of charge starting from entry and participation in the workshops”.
