The explosion destroyed the surrounding structures with serious repercussions also on the functioning of the electricity lines in the area.
Fireworks Depot Explodes in Zamboanga, Philippines
Yesterday morning, Saturday 29th June a fireworks warehouse exploded in the city of Zamboangain the southwest Philippines.
The episode occurred around 4pm local time (around 10am in Italy), generating a crater in the ground 20 meters wide and destroying the walls of the warehouse.
The event, which launched debris on the surrounding buildings including a beverage manufacturing plant, a grain and flour warehouse and some houses, it affected an area with a radius of over 3 thousand square meters.
Five dead, including a 4-year-old child, and 38 injured
In the explosion the toll is 5 dead, including a 4-year-old childin addition to 38 injured, 8 of these seriously although not life-threatening.
The accident, as reported in a Facebook post by the city administration, occurred on Marquez Drive, a road located in the Tetuan neighborhood, in the middle of center of the city.
According to what the local media write, 4 of the victims would be workers of the deposit, while the child would be the son of one of them.
The flames under control
The flames have been declared under control after about an hour and a half, around 5.30pm local time (around 11.30am in Italy).
The investigations the causes of the accident continue, in coordination between the authorities and the office of the city mayor John Dalipe.
The municipal office for Social Security and Development was tasked by the administration with ascertaining the needs of the families of the victims and assisting those who remained wound.
