An unprecedented election night in France. While the celebrations of the far right of the Rassemblement National began, given at 31.5% since the first exit polls of the European elections, the current president Emmanuel Macron appeared before the nation to announce the dissolution of the National Assembly. “France needs a clear majority,” he said, announcing that the vote for the legislative elections will take place on 30 June, while the run-off elections will take place on 7 July. A real earthquake that suddenly upset all the balances and confirmed the triumph of Marine Le Pen.
To understand how overwhelming the victory was, just look at the map shared on X (the former Twitter) by Mediaset journalist Leonardo Panetta. “In brown where Le Pen won”, he explained accompanying the image with a France of almost a single colour. “Macron in white, practically Paris and surrounding areas”, he added to comment on the president’s debacle.
In fact, Le Pen and her leader Jordan Bardella obtained 31.57% of the votes, double that of President Macron’s Renaissance with candidate Valérie Hayer (14.57%) and of the small Place Publique movement, of Raphaël Glucksmann, supported by socialists (13.78%), while the left of Insoumis stopped at 9.74%.
