Vladimir Putin has said he assumes that nuclear weapons will never be used. “I start from the assumption that the world will never get to this point,” said the Russian president, interviewed at the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg.

“Someone says that all wars end with an agreement that can be a military victory or a defeat. We want to achieve victory and we will achieve it, it is clear”, he argued.

Russia’s supply of missiles to adversaries of Western countries is not imminent, he added. “It won’t be tomorrow,” Putin said, but reserved for Moscow the right to do so in response to Kiev’s bombing of Russian territory with Western-supplied weapons.

Shortly before, at the opening of his speech to the plenary session of the Forum, Putin had argued that the Western world “wants to maintain a hegemonic role, which is escaping it”.

Russia’s military needs rapid technological renewal, Putin said in his speech.

With its foreign partners, Russia will increase the use of national currencies for trade, the Russian president said, adding that the Brics countries are working on creating an independent payments system that is not subjected to political pressure and external sanctions .

The Russian president claims that the share of exports of Russian products other than hydrocarbons will increase by two-thirds by 2030. “Supplies of high-tech finished products have increased,” he told the Forum, according to Tass. “We will actively support such non-oil and gas, non-energy exports, and by 2030 their volume is expected to increase by at least two-thirds compared to 2023,” Putin said.

As of 2021, the use of the ruble in Russia’s international transactions has increased sharply, reaching almost 40%, while the use of “toxic” currencies of hostile countries has halved, the president claimed.
