USA, law that could ban TikTok approved by the Senate

The US Senate has passed a bill that could ban the use of TikTok. The measure, in fact, gives six months to the Chinese company ByteDance to sell the platform which, otherwise, will be banned. The measure is contained in the $95 billion foreign aid package, including military assistance to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, that has now cleared Congress and heads to President Joe Biden’s desk.

The risk of legal action

The app, which has 170 million users in the US, raises the alarm of the United States and other Western officials, according to whom it would allow Beijing to collect data and spy on users. TikTok has been in the sights of American authorities for years, for which the platform allows Beijing to snoop on users in the United States. But a ban could trigger legal action.
