The COVID-19 is now behind us, none pandemic it threatened our normality despite certain prophecies (or perhaps hopes) of some virologists/infectious diseases/microbiologists. But the situation could soon change according to those in the know: since the beginning of April the USA, after the detection of thebird flu Highly pathogenic H5N1 in dairy cattle farms in some states and a related human case raise questions about the risk of further developments in the situation. There is concern about worst-case scenarios, with the evolution of the virus capable of transmitting from human to human. Hypothesis which immediately triggered psychosis online, with the usual hail of interventions from experts.
Well, also due to the risk of an avian pandemic, the protocol is the one dear to Roberto Speranza. As highlighted by virologist Massimo Clementi, the tools are already on the table: antivirals, vaccines and watchful waiting. Yes, you read it right: the imperishable watchful waiting. The two words loved by the former Minister of Health/writer: instead of giving valid indications on the therapies to be adopted, watchful waiting. That is, do nothing. An indication in clear contrast with the professional activity of doctors in the terms indicated by science and ethics. Because leaving the patient on stand-by cannot be normal, whether it is Covid, avian flu or seasonal flu. In other words: watchful waiting prevents doctors from being doctors and patients from treating themselves.
