Leslye Headland, showrunner di The Acolyte – the followertalked about how the twist in episode 5 came about. Obviously if you haven’t seen the episode yet, don’t continue reading.

Episode 5 revealed that under the Sith mask was Qimir, played by Manny Jacinto, the actor and showrunner talked about how the twist in The Acolyte came about. Headland said:

I think a good twist is not hiding everything from the audience and then throwing it at them like, ‘Hey, this is what you didn’t see! We hid it so well that you didn’t see it.’ I think a good twist is telegraphing what’s going to happen, and then, once it happens, executing it without a shred of pity or sentimentality.

Jacinto talked about his character, adding:

We talked a lot about how to take a low-level character and turn him into a badass. He’s a guy who goes unnoticed, who no one pays attention to, and suddenly he’s actually the guy pulling the strings. I had almost four months to train for that fight scene. That was the first time I could really dive into something with so much action and really tap into my background as a dancer. We worked on everything. We did boxing, we worked on kicks, we worked on all the choreography. It was tough. They trained my body so that I could get through this five-person fight scene.

The Acolyte – The Follower debuted June 5 exclusively on Disney+.
