Ramin Setoodesh, in the pages of the book Apprentice in Wonderland, told many background stories regarding the reality show which featured Donald Trump, the former president of the United States.
The Variety website reported some of the most interesting and curious details of the making of the NBC show.
Ben Silverman, who was co-head of NBC Entertainment, recalled a conversation in which Trump said:
He thought for a minute and said, ‘I’m happy that a Jew is running the network again.’ And I said, ‘Wow! I could take it one of two ways, but somehow, coming from you, it’s a compliment.
The book also reveals that Trump didn’t like waiting on set and if the cameras weren’t ready to roll when he arrived he would leave and return a few hours later, just to prove a point. The members of the transport team were then instructed to follow him wherever he went in his car. However, following him was complicated and even dangerous because the billionaire did not stop at red lights, exceeded the speed limit and left other vehicles behind.
The former president also seems to be “obsessed” with Debra Messing. Trump claimed that the Will & Grace star was coming to him to thank him because he was “saving the network and his show” by having a huge success that boosted the series’ ratings. However, his statements do not seem accurate, considering that Will & Grace aired before The Apprentice. Trump, however, maintained his position:
She was so grateful. She said, ‘I can’t thank you enough?’ Do you believe it? I was looking at her. And I tell you she would ‘do anything for me’.
At a later time, Donald Trump spoke again about Debra Messing, claiming that in the first years of the airing of Will & Grace he had a crush on her and the rejection he received caused him some resentment.
The billionaire finally confirmed that he was aware that Aubrey O’Day, lead singer of the group Danity Kane, had had an affair with his son Donald Jr, but did not hear the song he later wrote about it, despite knowing of its existence. Trump therefore had no problem admitting that he was aware that his son had had an affair with one of the contestants on the fifth season of The Celebrity Apprentice.
