all about the new dramatic TV series on Canale 5

Canale 5 presents a new and exciting television series entitled Davos, which promises to keep Italian viewers glued to the screens. This historical series, composed of six episodes of 45 minutes each, will be broadcast in prime time starting from Wednesday 19 June, for a total of three prime time slots. The story is set during the First World War and follows the events of a young nurse, Johanna Gabathuler, who transforms into a symbol of self-determination and courage.

The plot of the TV series Davos 1917

Davos is a drama series which explores the complexity of human lives during one of the darkest periods in European history. The narrative takes place in 1917, at the height of the First World War, and focuses on Davos, a Swiss spa town which, despite being neutral and apparently peaceful, becomes the theater of intense espionage activities. The story revolves around 22-year-old Johanna Gabathuler, played by Dominique Davenport. Johanna is a talented Swiss nurse who, in an attempt to win back her daughter, finds herself involved in dangerous espionage missions. Daughter of Peter Gabathuler, the director of the Davos sanatorium, and of a Russian mother who died during childbirth, Johanna grows up in an environment dominated by patriarchy. Her life takes a decisive turning point when, at the beginning of the war, she decides to enlist as a Red Cross nurse.

While serving in Belgium, Johanna falls in love with a German soldier, but their love story is tragically interrupted by his death in battle. Back in Davos, Johanna she discovers she is pregnant and, to avoid scandal, she is forced to give birth in secret. Her daughter is taken from her and entrusted as a foundling. Destroyed by her pain, Johanna returns to Davos and submits to her father’s will, finding consolation only in her work as a nurse.

Is Davos 1917 a true story?

The Davos TV series is not inspired by a true story. The plot and characters of the work are in fact based on a fictional story, although the historical context is truthful, as is the struggle between the secret services of European and world powers during the First World War.

The cast of the TV series

In addition to Dominique Davenport (seen in Sissi) as the protagonist, the cast of Davos is enriched by two key characters who influence Johanna’s fate: Countess Ilse von Hausner and Dr. Carl Mangold. Countess Ilse von Hausner, played by Jeanette Hain, is a charming and manipulative woman, as well as one of the best agents of the German Empire’s Secret Service.

Ilse exploits Johanna’s vulnerability, but begins to develop a complex affection for her, trying to protect her from becoming a cold spy and as ruthless as herself. Dr. Carl Mangold, played by David Kross, is a brilliant German surgeon with a troubled past.

When and where to see Davos

The new miniseries will be broadcast on Canale 5 starting tonight in prime time, Wednesday 19 June. Davos will also be available for live viewing and streaming on the official Mediaset infinity channel.
