Among the best TV series canceled too soon from today we can also mention Tokyo Vicethe acclaimed Japanese crime thriller from HBO which has recently been officially torpedoed by the network.

The news was revealed today during a Produced By panel at Fox Studios with panelists Max Head of Original Content, Sarah Aubrey, Tokyo Vice creator JT Rogers and executive producer/director Alan Poul. A spokesperson for Max said in a statement: “From Tokyo Vice’s richly written material to the beautifully composed shots to the lived-in performances, the care and creativity of this enormously talented cast and crew has shone through every frame of the series. We thank JT, Alan, Ansel, Ken, Fifth Season and Wowow for their collaboration in this totally unique modern noir thriller.

Rogers and Poul added: “In the last five years Max made sure we could tell our story. They supported us through thick and thin. Not only did they give us these two seasons, they said yes when we asked to end the first season on a cliffhanger, and they said yes when we asked for two extra episodes so we could wrap up the story we envisioned. We are grateful not only to Max, but to our Fifth Season partners, who sold the show around the world and made it a global success story. They were always in the trenches with us, and they ensured we were able to make the show we wanted to make. The response from both press and fans, particularly to season two, has been overwhelming: It’s been exciting to discover how deeply viewers have engaged with our characters and to know they want more. We know there are more stories to tell with these characters and of course we’ll see what the future holds, but we’re so grateful to have been able to share this story about Max so far”.
