Over 5 million 700 thousand viewers watched the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund on Canale 5 on Saturday evening, for a share of 31.4 percent. Thanks to the match, the Mediaset flagship network defeated the competition, as always happened on Tuesdays when the Cup characterized its schedule with an audience of around 4 and a half million fans.

The new Champions League will start on September 17th, with more teams and matches: 36 participating teams, 203 matches on the calendar.

Sky has acquired the rights to almost everything: free-to-air matches, satellite, streaming. In total 185 matches will be seen with the Sky brand on television, on Wednesday evening Prime Video confirmed the 18 matches exclusively with an Italian team still starring with the consolidated Piccinini-Ambrosini duo in place.

As far as the free-to-air match is concerned, there are no certainties for now: the likely broadcast channel would be TV8, the network of the American group, even if there is no obligation of any kind with the consequence that Sky could only offer everything in pay-in so as to induce fans to subscribe to watch the most spectacular competition – together with the Premier League – on TV.

Precisely for this reason Rai, recently more inclined towards sport than a few years ago, seems intent on trying to offer Italians the Tuesday evening match for free. For Mediaset, however, the adventure would seem to have ended on Saturday evening also on the basis of what director Alberto Brandi said at the end of the “Special” “The Champions League ends here for us, our three-year period ends. With a few tears.”
