There is life again at US and Canadian box office. The box office of the past weekend was once again dominated by Inside Out 2which lost 43% compared to the extraordinary second weekend but still achieved new records.
With $57.4 million grossed over the three-day weekend, the film Disney Pixar it has now grossed $469 million domestically, a figure that allows it to surpass films like this in one fell swoop Toy Story 3, The Lion King, Toy Story 4 e Shrek 2 and enter the Top 5 highest grossing animated films in North America. Internationally, however, it is the first film of 2024 to have surpassed the billion dollar threshold and the fastest animated film to do so. Inside Out 2 is preparing to make history also in Italy, where it has currently grossed almost 30 million euros and “sees” Oppenheimer e Barbie.
In addition to the phenomenon of the moment, another excellent result comes from the US box office: A Quiet Place Day 1 in fact, it recorded the best debut ever for the sci-fi horror saga and with 53 million dollars it rose to second place of the week. In all, now the prequel with Lupita Nyong’o grossed $98.5 million, also a record for the franchise.
In third place, very far behind, we find Horizon: An American Saga Chapter 1. The first film of the western diptych directed by and starring Kevin Costner stopped at 11 million dollars in three days. It is difficult to establish whether this is positive or negative, because the budget figures are not clear: they range from 50 to 100 million dollars. Just outside the podium it resists Bad Boys: Ride or Diewhich with another 10.3 million reaches 165 million at the domestic box office.
Among the news of the week, we highlight You are 2898 ADan Indian Telugu-language sci-fi film capable of grossing $5.4 million in its first weekend, and also Jatt & Juliet 3a rom-com also from India and in ninth place with 1.5 million dollars.
