(ANSA) – SIENA, JUNE 29 – The Nicchio contrada won the first test of the Palio di Siena in view of the Carriera on July 2. The Giraffa and Bruco got off to a good start but it was the Nicchio that took the lead at the first bend of San Martino and then maintained it until the end of the third lap. The horse-jockey pairings decided in the afternoon after the horses were assigned to the districts were made official: Giovanni Atzeni known as Tittia on Veranu in the Oca, Carlo Sanna known as Brigante on Tabacco in the Onda, Jonatan Bartoletti known as Scompiglio on Ungaros in the Valdimontone, Elias Mannucci known as Turbine on Akida in the Nicchio, Andrea Coghe known as Tempesta on Zenios in the Lupa, Enrico Bruschelli known as Bellocchio on Viso D’Angelo in the Pantera, Sebastiano Murtas known as Grandine on Ares Elce in the Leocorno, Federico Guglielmi known as Tamurè on Criptha in the Civetta, the debutant Mattia Chiavassa on Brivido Sardo in the Bruco and the other debutant Gabriele Puligheddu on Ardeglina in the Giraffa.
