Fire Devastates Alta Murgia National Park – MinervinoLive.it

The fire nightmare continues in the countryside of Minervino, where a devastating fire destroyed over 200 hectares of Mediterranean scrub and 30 hectares of woodland on Thursday. Although the flames were put out yesterday evening, this morning the fire regained strength, advancing impetuously and consuming the vegetation of the Alta Murgia National Park.

Since the early hours of the day, firefighters, personnel from the Regional Agency for Irrigation and Forestry Activities (Arif) and civil protection have been working tirelessly to try to put out the flames which continue to spread across wooded areas and pastures. The situation was made particularly complex by the impervious nature of the vast area involved, which made intervention difficult for both ground personnel and air vehicles.

Despite the difficulties, with the help of helicopters and two Canadairs, the firefighting operations are achieving positive results. “At the moment, the situation seems to be improving,” some sources report, underlining the importance of keeping our guard up until the area is completely safe.

The Minervino fire represents a serious blow to the environment and natural heritage of the region, causing incalculable damage to the local flora and fauna. The authorities invite the population to cooperate and promptly report any new outbreak, in the hope of avoiding further environmental tragedies.

This latest episode highlights once again the vulnerability of our green areas and the importance of effective prevention and rapid intervention strategies to protect the natural treasures of our territory.
