VIGODARZERE (PADUA) – New cases of telephone scams with the excuse of the accident. In a single day, four attempts in Vigodarzere. This time the victim, initially shocked and almost on the verge of falling into the trap, then managed to unmask the self-styled carabinieri who had staged a rather sophisticated scam. “They are prepared people and use increasingly defined, studied methods – says SR -. In those moments it is difficult to remain lucid: they have answers immediately ready for any doubt”.

THE EPISODE

Last Thursday, at 12:35, the woman received a phone call on her home landline from a person who identified himself as a marshal of the Carabinieri operational unit of Padua. “He knew my husband’s name and also my son’s; he asked me if I was alone at home, to calm down and not get agitated. The self-styled marshal informed me that my son was under arrest because he was responsible for a very serious road accident and that the motorcyclist who was hit was already in the operating room with serious injuries and for this reason my son needed a public defender for the summary hearing scheduled for 4:00 p.m. He also told me that they had withdrawn his license and that he risks up to 4 years in prison. I felt like I was dying!” The woman was told that her son’s cell phone had been confiscated because he was under arrest and so she asked to be able to speak to him on the phone. “The scammer replied that as an exception I could speak to my son for 12 seconds to calm him down because he was crying,” the woman continued. They say to me: “Try to calm him down, can he feel it?”. A boy with a voice choked with tears actually passed me and said: “Mom! Mom! I had a bad accident, Mom what’s happening?!”. It was difficult to actually recognize a voice choked with tears and for a moment I thought I was hearing my son and my world fell apart. The phone call ended. Shortly after, a certain Marshal Tosini called me back and asked for my cell phone number. I replied that they could ask my son for my number and the marshal promptly replied: “he heard it, he’s in a confused state, he doesn’t remember it”. So I gave my number but I demanded to have the number of the barracks and I was told that I should call 112 and ask for a certain Marshal Tosini”. The woman insisted on speaking to her son again: same voice choked with tears, same boy and same words. “When I heard that voice for the second time, I had a doubt about that anomalous cry, the same as the first, and then I thought about the times: too close between the accident and the phone call with the victim already in the operating room.”

IMPOSTORS DISCOVERED

So, while he heard crying, he asked him a question that only the true son could know. “If it’s you, tell me the name of the….”? Silence and the call ends. After two seconds the elusive marshal calls me back and requests my contact with the lawyer. I asked for my son again and was granted the third contact: same desperate cry. So I’ll rephrase the previous question. No response and the line goes dead: gone.” So the woman immediately called her son’s cell phone who answered, peacefully, surprised, on a lunch break with colleagues. «I burst into liberating tears, mixed with tension, fear, anger and joy. I rushed to the barracks, unfortunately the police informed me that this morning alone there had been 4 other complaints here in town. I managed to think of asking “my son” that question, the one he was unable to answer and caused their perfidious scam attempt to collapse.”
