The car takes fire while walking along the state it’s a fireman free from service stops the fire. It happened this afternoon on state road 274, the Gallipoli–Leucaat the Felline exit.
What happened
The car, a Peugeot, was traveling northbound when the young driver glimpsed smoke coming out of the engine compartment. The woman immediately stopped and, in fear, she got out of the car. Precisely in those minutes the firefighter Vincenzo Siciliano, from Patù, who was off duty at the time, was passing by. The firefighter immediately stopped and approached the car to try to make it safe. He first tried to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher. Then he noticed that a cement mixer used for transporting concrete was approaching: he immediately called the driver’s attention, asking him to stop, and put out the flames with the water pump used to wash the vehicle. In the meantime, firefighters from the Gallipoli detachment arrived on site and continued to make the vehicle and the state road safe, which is particularly busy at this time of year. The carabinieri of the Casarano company also intervened. They were moments of great fear, especially for the driver of the car, but thanks to the intervention of the young firefighter everything was resolved for the best.
