BOLZANO, JUNE 28 – The mayor of La Valle, a municipality in Alto Adige, Angel Miribung, died in a mountain accident. The accident – local press reports – occurred yesterday on Piz Bernina, in Switzerland, but rescue teams were only able to find the body today due to fog. Miribung was in the mountains with a friend. The vice president of the SVP (of which Miribung was a member) Daniel Alfreider remembered him. “Our community has lost a man and a politician who, with his deep sense of justice and his sensitivity for people, worked tirelessly for the common good”, Alfreider wrote on social media. “I will miss his countless visits to Bolzano and our meetings in La Val and, above all, our friendship. My condolences to his family, his wife, children and grandchildren. A big hug”. It is not the first fatal accident in the mountains in recent days. On Wednesday, a 49-year-old Austrian tourist lost his life in Val Pusteria while climbing the Cima della Capra, while yesterday the body of a 56-year-old Belgian mountaineer was found who had not returned from an excursion on Croda del Clivio, above Naturno, in Val Venosta.
