The report cards

Pecco Bagnaia 10. It takes everything. Maybe even an Assen magnet to stick on the fridge. What can I say: Pecco was simply perfect. From Friday to Sunday. He lined up victories (race and Sprint), poles and laps with supersonic rocket times. One more race – already on Sunday in Germany – and he will also return to the top of the world rankings. With absolute merit.

Enea Bastianini 9. Bullying competition. At Bastianini. He gets on the podium beating Marquez, Di Giannantonio and Marquez. She signs a result that also relaunches her in the title race.

Jorge Martin 9. Bagnaia doesn’t give up. She follows him, tries to put pressure on him (in the first part of the GP) then makes her calculations and manages herself. To keep the lead in the World Championship and go and challenge Pecco in the next episode.

Marc Marquez 8. ‘Buca’ Vinales on the last lap. However, he immediately showed his grit and nastiness with a series of overtakings and thrilling braking. Then, the penalty: it’s certainly not his fault, but it takes away his points and smile.

Fabio DiGiannantonio 7.5. He stays up there, among the monsters, as long as he can. Performance of character and courage. He would have even deserved the podium, but he has to settle for a position that still deserves applause. Message to the market?

Maverick Vinales 6. Complicated vote, because Mav raced like hell and gave battle to everyone. He wanted the podium but suffered from Bastianini’s rise and Marquez’s attacks. Until he made a mistake on the last lap and received a penalty.

Fabio Quartararo 5. At times he shows his qualities, then Yamaha abandons him to fate and the race ends in yet another position in the swamp. It’s sad to see him like this, because he’s a strong rider. On an unwatchable bike.

Alex Marquez 5. He could and certainly wanted to do much more. In qualifying he had sent very encouraging signals. Seeing him in the fight of the fastest was not just a mirage. He starts well but then disappears. To not re-emerge.

Pedro Acosta 4. Young and strong. But still too little calculating and concrete. Thus he ends a race with a fall where, on the contrary, he had flown and made people dream. Pedrito, you have to grow up.

Luke Marini, 1. He only shows up for a (not very comforting) walk on the gravel. Then the lights went out on him and on his Honda, now a bad copy of the bike it once was.

Marco Bezzecchi 0. A long, long weekend to forget. Bad luck? No doubt. But Bez’s problem was above all another: concentration. It was enough to look him in the eyes on Thursday, before he even started the engine of his Ducati, to see a boy still in the storm of that choice made a few hours earlier: leaving Valentino’s team to race in Aprilia. Bez ‘felt’ the responsibility of his choice and paid for a weekend to forget.
