Death of Carlo Maletta, the unions: “Enough with these massacres at work”

“We have learned the tragic news once again. Another worker from the province of Sondrio joins the tragic number of deaths at work, the fatal accident occurred on a construction site in the province of Novara, a 56-year-old worker was crushed by machinery. Unfortunately, the chain of fatal accidents does not stop.” The Feneal, Filca and Fillea unions rally around the family of surveyor Carlo Maletta, resident in Cercino and deceased today in Meina in the Novara area, and express their sorrow for what happened with a note.

“At the same time – the note continues – we are denouncing the too many “white deaths”, too many victims that are counted every day in the world of work. FENEAL FILCA FILLEA are forcefully calling for the problem of safety on construction sites. Enough with these massacres, enough with workers who go out to go to work and do not return home to their families.

We believe it is necessary to wait for the relevant authorities to carry out all the necessary investigations to verify any responsibilities. We must not lower our guard on the issue of prevention, safety in the workplace and the training of all those who work in the workplace because it is necessary that safety becomes a priority on construction sites and in all workplaces.

Everyone’s contribution is needed. Having the objective of reducing the risk of accidents means a joint and constant commitment in monitoring the workplace, it is necessary that all the figures within the work chain collaborate with each other, also involving the bodies responsible for prevention and safety. In this way, the skills and experiences of the various subjects can identify the most effective way to combat too many victims and too many accidents at work”.
