The young man insistently asked for money for drugs
The Flying Squad of the Catania Police Headquarters have arrested a 21-year-old from Catania for attempted murder, domestic abuse, personal injury and extortion against his mother. He was also reported for resisting a Public Official. During the territory control services, the Flying Squad police officers intervened in the Librino neighborhood, at the request of a woman who had helped a neighbor, who was being chased by her son who had attacked her. The police officers, as soon as they received the call for help, arrived in a few moments, blocking the young man who was still in a state of great agitation.
The 21-year-old, annoyed by the presence of the police, attacked the officers, telling them that they should not interfere in family affairs. The woman, desperate and in tears, was immediately made safe by the crew of another police car which intervened later. The victim, who had noticeable bruises on various points of her body and face, told the police about numerous episodes of extortion, committed by her son against her, to obtain the money necessary to buy the drugs. Episodes in which her son, when she refused, flew into a rage, threatening her and attacking her with violence.
This is what happened that evening too. In fact, while the woman was in her bed, after her umpteenth refusal to hand over the money requested by her son, he attacked her, kicking and punching her until she bled from her nose. The young man also allegedly devastated the house, smashing furniture and various furnishings. The violence was such that even though the attack was aimed at the mother, the young man grabbed the victim’s bag, tightened the shoulder strap around her neck, trying to strangle her, threatening to kill her if she didn’t first hand over the money and then accompany him to the city center. The woman, fearing for her safety, tried to walk away but her son continued to attack her, pushing her down the stairs and making her fall to the floor. At that very moment, a neighbor, hearing the woman’s screams, went out to help her, taking her to her home from where, shortly after, she called the police. The action of the medical personnel who accompanied the woman to the emergency room of the “San Marco” hospital for treatment was also providential. The immediate investigations of the agents made it possible to ascertain that in the past there had already been other episodes of violence, both physical and verbal, which the woman had reported. The woman, in tears, also this time formalized the complaint against her son. At the end of the ritual activities, the 21-year-old was arrested and, by order of the Public Prosecutor, transferred to the District Prison. The Judge for Preliminary Investigations validated the arrest and applied the precautionary measure of custody in prison pending the next phases of the criminal proceedings.
