In the Macchia del Monte district there is silence. You can’t hear the sounds of agricultural vehicles like every day. Not even the sounds of the animals, nor the voices of the residents. The inhabitants of the small district of Montemarano rallied to his side Vincenzo Galluccio e Anna Gambaleparents of little Domenico. The little body lies in the white coffin on his bed. He has never left his home. Even when he died in the courtyard in front of the house. No one has the strength to speak. “There are no words.” It is the only thing that someone manages to say, lowering their gaze. The pain is too strong. In the eyes of family, friends and many people there are only tears.
Domenico Galluccio he was ready to attend the Povia concert together with his parents. Impatiently he was playing happily in the backyard. A special evening awaited him. He would definitely have fun. He would meet his friends and classmates. He might have enjoyed cotton candy or eaten a good ice cream. And perhaps even danced to the tune of the Montemaranese tarantella. The sweet anticipation of going out to spend the evening in company disintegrated in a few minutes. Little Domenico played in the courtyard every day. He ran free and carefree, he had fun like any child at that age can do.
The other evening he was playing around a work tool that held a piece of iron. Strength a tool that the blacksmith father used for some small jobs around the house. A few moments and then the tragedy. Domenico was crushed by the iron plate that broke away from the sheet metal cutter. The heart-rending screams of mother Anna and father Vincenzo echoed all the way to the hamlet of Santi Giovanni e Paolo. Despite the prompt rescue, Domenico did not make it. A doctor who was a family friend arrived immediately, remaining petrified at the scene. The carabinieri carried out surveys in the area where the tragedy occurred. They also returned for further investigations.
An investigation into Domenico’s death has not been opened. Unfortunately it was a tragic fatality. The domestic accident was reconstructed in great detail by the military. The immediate investigations were enough to understand what happened. The body of little Domenico was immediately released by the magistrate after the coroner’s investigations. He never left the family home. The little body of little Domenico remained there, at home, in his little room. A little angel sleeping peacefully. A life too short. A fate too cruel. A message of condolence also from the management of the “Di Meo” school, the school that little Domenico attended.

Yes, that’s right. His smile will remain imprinted in the minds of everyone who knew him. A bright, friendly and joyful child. Always smiling and cheerful. The pain of mother Anna and father Vincenzo it overwhelmed the entire community of Montemarano. Many are close to Domenico’s parents to support them in this painful moment and make their closeness felt. This morning the last farewell to little Domenico. The funeral will be celebrated in the cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. Mayor Beniamino Palmieri proclaimed the city’s mourning announced in a post on his Facebook page: «We are experiencing a tragedy that leaves us speechless and throws us into a state of deep pain and sincere emotion. We all have the duty to mourn this child who passed away so soon, we all have the duty to rally around his family, because this mourning belongs to all of Montemarano.”
