5G is worrying: Municipalities ask the Region to meet

There is concern, not only among small municipalities, about the amendment to the Cohesion decree, approved by the Senate Budget Committee, which effectively overrides municipal regulations on the planning of antenna installations in the so-called “white areas”, to allow the achievement of the digital transformation objectives of the “Italy 5G Plan”.

«The regulations remain the only tool in the hands of the Municipalities – states Federico Gori, mayor of Montecchio and coordinator of small Umbrian Municipalities – to plan the construction of the plants. To date, it seems that there is a lack of protection tools for the Municipalities, which cannot discuss the risk to public health (of which it should be remembered, the mayor would be the guarantor on his territory, ed.) and on the respect of the areas of landscape interest (to be from which many municipalities derive an important part of their attractiveness, with consequences that cannot be avoided). Precisely for this reason, in September last year, an urgent meeting was requested with the regional councilor Michele Fioroni, which unfortunately has not yet been scheduled to date. The aim was to organize a discussion table that could deal with the resulting problems in an organic and shared manner, also taking into account the aggressiveness of telephone operators. We are making this request to the department in the hope that today, when we are in an ’emergency’ phase, we can address the issue together. On behalf of the Small Umbrian Municipalities, I also send a strong signal to the national Anci, to take an active part in resolving the problems, to protect the interests of all Italian Municipalities, citizens and businesses, which risk the devaluation of their investments. Finally – concludes Gori – we will ask for a meeting with the Umbrian parliamentarians, given that the amendment has already passed the Senate with votes of confidence and will soon reach the Chamber”
