The man was on holiday in a village near the port, together with his wife. As learned in Asp circles, the health workers intervened immediately, but every attempt was useless and it is probable that the man had a anaphylactic shock perhaps caused by an anti-inflammatory drug.

He had complained of a sore throat and so he had ingested (around 5 am) a 600 mg anti-inflammatory. Then in the afternoon he had ingested another tablet, on the advice of his doctor in Rome.
The dynamics
In attempting to take the second medicine, however, the couple immediately realized that something was wrong, as the 54-year-old was unable to swallow the tablet easily. The wife immediately alerted the 118 health workers who, after arriving on site about fifteen minutes later, advised the man to take the pill with some bread. But the doctors still decided to take the man to the emergency room of the Tropea hospital.
The investigations and the tragedy
From there the situation worsened: the paramedics reassured the wife that it was nothing serious and proceeded to carry out some tests. After 20 minutes the man left the emergency room for a breath of fresh air, then returned with shortness of breath. According to the woman’s complaint to the Carabinieri with the assistance of the lawyer Francesco Rombolà, after waiting another twenty minutes, a doctor in fact informed the woman that her husband had died from – according to the paramedics – anaphylactic shock.
The woman reported the incident to the Carabinieri this morning, Friday 27 June, to ascertain any negligent responsibility for her husband’s death. The Vibo Valentia Prosecutor’s Office is dealing with the matter and will have to decide whether to proceed with an autopsy of the 54-year-old (an athlete who had never reported serious health problems).
