The artist Roberto Picchi, 28 years old, resident in Erba, is the winner of the ninth edition of the Gabbioneta sculpture prize promoted by Trillium Pumps Italy – Gabbioneta Pumps, the company in via Agnesi, with the Factory store glass project. The project is inspired by the Fitzroy barometer, more commonly known as “storm glass”, consisting of a glass container filled with a liquid that allows you to predict the weather by observing its appearance. Designed to function within the production area of the factory, the tubular blown glass sculpture, which recalls the tools used by geologists for core drilling, will contain two of the pieces proposed by the company placed at the ends, similar to hypothetical opening valves and closure.

The content of the work will relate to the colors and temperatures present within the exhibition space, becoming a symbolic indicator useful for reflecting on current and future environmental conditions. The project is also designed for the active participation of possible visitors, who will be able to access a site via a QR Code, creating a small meteorological diary over time. The artist will be awarded a cash prize of 5 thousand euros for the creation of the work which will be presented in early October at the company headquarters. Created in collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera, Milan and the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara, the competition benefits from the patronage of the Lombardy Region and the Municipality of Milan. The award is reserved for artists under 40 with the aim of supporting young generations of sculptors.
