Employment levels are growing in the district, but so is the redundancy fund. And the metalworking and construction sectors are suffering more than others. Economic development and quality of work are the issues at the center of the meeting that took place in recent days between the District, the Business Table and trade unions. Present were the municipal councilor for Economic Development, Pierangelo Raffini, the representatives of the employers’ associations and the secretaries Stefano Moni (Cgil), Enrico Bassani together with Gaetano Lombardo (Cisl) and Giuseppe Rago (Uil).

The meeting, requested by the unions during the budget discussion, restarts a discussion on the topic of work and employment trends in the area. Specifically, after sharing some data relating to the district updated at the end of 2023, which show a +1.6% increase in employment compared to the previous year (with over 50,876 people employed), the parties discussed the situation of I am working in the first half of this year and on some strategic issues for the development of the territory. These include a reflection on the increase in ordinary layoff procedures in the first half of the year compared to the same period in 2023; the need for an in-depth analysis of the metalworking and construction sectors which are experiencing specific difficulties; the context characterized by a high cost of money which slows down investments; the quality of employment in some specific sectors such as services; the need in some sectors for skills and workers; the topic of housing and services for workers; development opportunities in the surrounding area.

The meeting concluded with the commitment to address the individual issues through specific focuses to be held in the autumn, also preparatory to the preparation of the economic conference of the district, which will be held in the first months of 2025. Finally, the parties shared the opportunity for a specific meeting in November, to share and discuss the economic situation expected for next year.

“I believe it is essential to share the photograph of the state of health of the territory and the growth prospects with the business table and with the trade union organizations of the territory – comments councilor Raffini –. The reasoning can only be circumstantial. In the autumn months we will continue the comparison with today’s players, in view of the economic conference that we want to organize for the first months of 2025. For us it will be a very important moment that will end with a strategic document, which will contain the main lines of development for the territory”.
