Research, Rosolen: Friuli Venezia Giulia protagonist in Italy-Africa relations

Accra – “The scientific and innovation system of Friuli Venezia Giulia has been able to anticipate many of the themes contained in the Mattei Plan. The very theme of scientific diplomacy has accompanied the history of this territory, anticipating the debate we are facing at a national and European level” . This was stated by the regional councilor for work, education, training, university, research and family Alessia Rosolen, who today in Trieste participated in the work of the annual assembly of the scientific and innovation system of Friuli Venezia Giulia dedicated to “International Cooperation and Scientific Diplomacy: the contribution of Science and Education to the strategic partnership between Italy and Africa”. “The Mattei Plan translates into strategic lines a commitment that the national government has made to respond to three specific critical issues: demographic decline, immigration, relations with countries in conflict with each other – highlighted Rosolen – In the Mattei Plan it is important that we don’t talk about scientific diplomacy only in terms of research, development and relationships, but we talk a lot about training courses”. “The added value of the Sis Fvg, in fact, concerned in particular the training courses in research support, in the relationship between new professional figures, in the construction of the higher education system and the ITS. In this context, between the moreover, we have two national excellences: the exchange experience of the MITS Malignani of Udine with Egypt and that of the ITS Alto Adriatico of Pordenone with Ghana” added Rosolen. Part of the day’s program focused precisely on these two good practices of cooperation with Africa, with the presentation of the project contents with which the aim is to bridge the imbalance between supply and demand of labor in the manufacturing sector. The councilor then highlighted how “the Mediterranean is also an area to be explored in terms of cooperation. Where there are technological gaps, opportunities for development and scientific diplomacy are created. For this same reason I believe it is illogical that the Universities, protagonists of research , interrupt collaborative relationships for political reasons, because it is precisely these relationships that allow us to build bridges and good practices”. The councilor then thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Ministry of University and Research for having recognized Trieste and Friuli Venezia Giulia as a reference role in scientific diplomacy.
