Magna Graecia Film Festival 2024: a parterre of stars in Catanzaro

The 21st edition of the Magna Graecia Film Festival (MGFF) will be held in Catanzaro from July 27 to August 4, 2024, and it promises to be a star-studded and surprise-filled event. Confirmed guests include notable names such as Tim Robbins, Kevin Costner, Claudio Bisio and the godmother Clara Soccini. A highly prestigious addition to the parterre is Raoul Bova, who will receive the Golden Pillar for his contribution to the film industry and social issues.

The event, conceived and directed by Gianvito Casadontecelebrates cinema with competitions dedicated to Italian debut works and documentaries, curated by Antonio Capellupoand to international debut works, followed by Silvia Vizio Additionally, the festival features conversations with world-renowned talents.

Raoul Bova, well-known actor, director and producer, will be the protagonist of a masterclass-conversation during which he will present clips from the documentary “The Lost Beauty: Syria”. This work, written and directed by Roberto Burchielli and produced by Maurizio Ratio per RealLife Televisionin collaboration with Italian Red Cross and the Syrian Red Crescenttells the story of the territories devastated by the Syrian conflict and its consequences.

Bova, with a career that ranges from the big to the small screen, is deeply involved in social issues. He is particularly attached to the role played in “Last Captain” and supported Sergio De Caprio in the creation of “Captain Ultimo Family Home”, a shelter for disadvantaged minors located in the Parco della Mistica in Rome. This project aims to combat the culture of diversity and provide young people with education and vocational training. Furthermore, Bova is actively involved with the “Io Ci Sono” association for the reconstruction of multifunctional centers in the areas of central Italy hit by the earthquake in 2016. In 2010, he was appointed FAO Good Will Ambassador and since June 2024 he is the first Ambassador of the Gemelli Polyclinic.

Since 2005, Raoul Bova has decided to explore film production with his company, focusing on projects of social relevance. Among his most significant productions are included “Cops”, a documentary film on the world of police and drugs, and “15 Seconds”, a short film against the death penalty presented in Brussels. He also co-produced “I, the other”a film that addresses the issue of racism post 9/11, and worked on two social short films with MediaFriends: “Graffiti” e “Black Love”, the latter against violence against women and interpreted by Michelle Hunziker.

Throughout his career, Bova has collaborated with great names in international cinema, including Anthony Quinn, Sophia Loren, Giancarlo Giannini, e Sylvester Stallone. Among his recent television appearances, the series stand out “Good morning mom”, “Don Matteo” e “The Fantastic 5”the latter dedicated to the theme of youth disability. Soon, we will see him at the cinema in the film “Greta and true fairy tales”.
