Beaten to death after the school dance

In Germany we are once again talking about violence among young people and adolescents, after the tragic death of Philippos Tsanistwenty years old MindenIn the North Rhine-Westphalia. The facts date back to June 22, a date that was supposed to be marked by happiness and celebrations for the graduation of her younger sister Chanel, but which turned into the beginning of a drama. Philippos had attended, together with his best friend and classmate Chanelat the celebration evening for the new graduates of Ratsgymnasium Mindenthe so-called “Abiball”, or the Abitur dance, the equivalent of our maturity exam.

The party took place at Kaiserpalaisbut afterwards it was planned to continue at the Adiamo Dance Club. Before going there, or perhaps while they were deciding whether to continue the celebrations or return home, Philippos and his friend went to the nearby Kurpark, around 1.30 in the morning. Here, for reasons that are still unclear and under investigation, the two young people found themselves involved in a violent dispute with a group of around ten individuals. The argument quickly degenerated into a brutal attack, during which Philippos and his friend were kicked and punched.

One of the attackers, in particular, seemed to have a particular animosity towards Philippos, so much so that he distanced him from the others and continued to beat him ferociously even after the other members of the group had given up, leaving the young man on the ground, defenseless and seriously injured. . The injuries sustained by Philippos were of such severity that they required immediate hospital admission. Despite doctors’ efforts, brain injuries caused by repeated blows to the head proved fatal. After three days of agony, Philippos was declared brain dead.

The police are looking for witnesses

Philippos’ father, Dimitri Tsanis, a 51-year-old man, expressed his grief in statements to several German media, including BILD and RTL: “I can’t believe he’s gone,” he said.

Philippos had recently started living on his own and was studying to work in the hotel industry. Furthermore, he cultivated a deep passion for music.

The investigations conducted by the “Palais” homicide squad of the Bielefeld criminal investigation department are still ongoing. The charges against unknown persons are of grievous bodily harm and manslaughter. Witnesses provided a detailed description of the main suspect: a man approximately 1.76 meters tall, with a beard and moustache, dressed in an orange Adidas jacket. The police and the prosecutor’s office have launched an appeal to the community, asking anyone with useful information to contact the number 0521/5450. At the same time, the investigators left an appeal to those responsible to turn themselves in.
