Abbiategrasso (Milan), 27 June 2024 – Breakthrough in the investigation into the death of kickboxer Antonio Gerace which took place a month ago in Vigevano. The police haveor seized anabolic substances in the home of a 34-year-old young man resident in Abbiategrasso, who was reported on the loose. In the background a disturbing suspicion: someone would have given doping substances to Gerace and these would have caused his death. The athlete was 51 years old and a month ago he felt ill in the gym. Transported to Humanitas in Rozzano, there was nothing that could be done for him. Gerace was known in kickboxing circles, a sport he also practiced at a competitive level.
The investigations to clarify his death they started immediatelyor, coordinated by the Pavia Prosecutor’s Office, and led yesterday to two complaints for a suspected ring of prohibited substances among practitioners of combat sports: from a 34-year-old from Abbiategrasso, domiciled in Vigevano, and from a 35-year-old from Massa Carrara. They are both accused of selling anabolic and narcotic drugs to some athletes. Yesterday the carabinieri carried out a series of searches in the provinces of Pavia, Milan and Massa Carrara. The checks led to seizure of 3,600 tablets, 84 vials of possible doping substances, 4 vials of narcotic drugs and 780 euros in cash.
To the 34 year old Siatense was served with a search warrant signed by the deputy Alberto Palermo. The police found some anabolic substances in the young man’s home. The young man was questioned at length by the police, who were investigating the possible relationship between the possible use of doping substances and the kickboxer’s death. The 34-year-old is defended by lawyers Roberto Grittini and Maria Teresa Rizzolo. No criminal charges have been formulated against him regarding the possibility that he may have given these substances to the 51-year-old. The investigations continue in the utmost confidentiality.
On the day of the tragedy, Gerace had gone to the gym of the Santa Maria sports center in Vigevano. After doing some exercises, he remained at ringside waiting for his discomfort to pass. At a certain point his friends saw him collapse on the ground. They also tried to revive him using the defibrillator. Help arrived, but the doctors had no choice but to confirm his death.
