Extremely serious road accident this afternoon in the ‘Mandorleto’ area on the SS 106 near the national archaeological park of Locri, in the province of Reggio Calabria. According to initial information, it was an autonomous car accident, probably caused by the driver of the vehicle becoming ill.
Two people, husband and wife, died instantly in the accident. Antonio Simonettiaged 61, and Palamara Sundayaged 58, while a third person, the 60-year-old Santina Palamara, Domenica’s sister, died after arriving at the hospital where she had been transported by air ambulance. A fourth person, the son of the deceased couple, Giuseppe Simonetti, 19 years old, was injured but his life is not in danger. He was transferred by air ambulance to the large metropolitan hospital of Reggio Calabria due to several fractures and injuries in multiple places on his body. All the occupants of the car are from Brancaleone. The four were traveling in a Fiat Panda which, for reasons yet to be ascertained, ended up against a wall.
The medics from the “118” emergency medical service immediately rushed to the scene. At the moment, no further details are known about the accident, the causes of which the police will have to clarify. The Locri Prosecutor’s Office is coordinating the Carabinieri investigations and has already ordered the preventive seizure of the vehicle.
