Neither an autonomous accident, nor the hypothesis of a private car as initially thought. Marco Torre, a 27-year-old policeman, lost control of his motorbike after colliding with a car that was in the emergency lane, stopped or moving very slowly.

After the collision, Marco Torre was catapulted onto the asphalt and while his motorbike was on fire, his heart stopped beating and he died. This would be the dynamics of the fatal accident that occurred on the Rome ring road on the morning of Tuesday 25 June, the 76th victim on the roads of Rome and its province in 2024.

The traffic police, who are investigating, have acquired the surveillance cameras of the section of the ring road and seized the vehicles. The driver of the car, found in shock and wearing an orange bib, was taken to hospital under code yellow and subjected to alcohol and drug tests, as per practice.

Marco Torre, a 27-year-old policeman, was going to work at the Viminale. He leaves behind a partner and a one-year-old son. A few hours after the tragedy on the Gofundme platform, a fundraiser was created to “honor and remember Marco, a special companion, friend, colleague and father who left an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew him”, we read. The campaign aims to raise funds to support Marco’s family during this difficult time. In just a few hours, more than 7 thousand euros were collected.
