Great sorrow in Milan for the passing of the former Sports Councilor Roberta Guaineri, 57 years old, criminal lawyer and protagonist of the assignment to Italy of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympics. «I have lost a beloved friend. She was a councilor in my first council, but our relationship was much more than a professional relationship – Mayor Beppe Sala wrote on social media -. A few months ago we had been together in Siena for a cycling race and only ten days ago she had come to me at Palazzo Marino and she had told me about her
health problems. But not so soon, Roberta». Then the mayor, attaching a photo that portrays them together immediately after the assignment of the Games to Lausanne on 24 June 2019, exactly five years ago, added: «We have to move on, but I know that you will leave a void that I don’t even dare describe. I will look at this photo for a long time, which crystallizes a moment of great happiness for us».
Pierfrancesco Majorino, Guaineri’s former colleague at Palazzo Marino and now group leader of the Democratic Party in the Region, remembered her with a speech at the Pirellone: «I want to remember Roberta’s human beauty, competence and devotion to her city. To her history as an administrator, linked to the awarding of the Olympics or to the major initiatives in which she was involved, I am thinking for example of the work regarding the Palalido in Milan, I also want to remember how in those very hot summers she made herself available for work to give life to the space of sociality and sharing aimed at older and frail people”.
The president of Lombardy Attilio Fontana also joined in the condolences: «I express, on behalf of the entire council, the condolences of the Lombardy Region for the premature death of the lawyer Roberta Guaineri.
