“Which body type is suitable for a bikini? All of them.” Billboards against discrimination

PADUA – Which body is best suited to bikini? Everyone. In view of the summer, this is the slogan launched by the new communication campaign promoted by the Municipality in collaboration with the “Mariasilvia Spolato” LGBTQ+ Anti-discrimination Center and the Centro Veneto Progetti Donna, which manages the Anti-violence Center of Padua. Summer and advertising: swimsuits, sun creams, perfect physiques, stand out on advertising billboards, absurdly making those who don’t have a body that responds to the ideal of stereotyped beauty proposed, and almost imposed, by that advertising which is far away feel ashamed of themselves. from being real.

Bikinis for everyone

The promoters of the initiative, thus, engage in an action of awareness cultural to counter this trend with an institutional campaign of public posters against discrimination and gender violence, proposing a conscious female image. The symbol chosen to give a voice to all bodies is the bikini, the two-piece which was a real revolution and became an icon of female emancipation after the 1950s. The communication campaign consists of the creation and free posting starting from the end of June, on the spaces dedicated to the Municipality, of 300 posters with images and information on the services available to women victims of violence or discrimination. There are six models protagonists of the 100×70 that will be visible in the city from Friday to August 16, posters which are, therefore, to be considered communication models that lead to respect for reality, the dignity of women and the principle of equal opportunities. The posters with the first three models will be visible from 28 June to 25 July, the other three will be the protagonists of those which will be displayed from 16 July to the end of the campaign and for about ten days, from 16 to 25 July, posters and models will be simultaneously. Fight against discrimination

«The fight against gender violence and discriminations – explained the councilor for Equal Opportunities and Countering Gender Violence, Margherita Colonnello yesterday – it can sometimes also be treated in the light register of provocation. The poster campaign does not judge the bodies of the models in large advertising campaigns but, on the contrary, exalts the bikini as a symbol of liberation of the female body. In Padua, however, all the bodies will be freed, as a message of solidarity for too many women who, due to the violence of a father or partner, cannot show their own and as encouragement for women who, due to the normative gaze of society, they feel uncomfortable in costume.”
