Poisons Out Committee: meeting in the Prefecture this morning

Today a meeting of a delegation of the “Comitato Fuori i Veleni Crotone Vuole Vivere” was held at the Prefecture of Crotone during which, a note underlines “The Petition launched on 06.04.2024 by the Committee with reference to the CDS of 3 May 2024 and the signatures collected online and on paper were delivered; The Committee’s note was delivered to the Regional Council of 20 May 2024; Today’s letter was delivered to the President of the Calabria Region, and for information to the Regional Council and the Regional Councillors of the majority and opposition, in which it is requested, the suspension of the effects and effectiveness of the Regional Waste Plan due to the serious consequences that this could have for the territory of Crotone whose environment is already severely compromised, and already subjected to strong epidemiological health pressures, as well as the extraordinary start of a Strategic Environmental Assessment of the entire Crotone territory; The request formulated with the forwarding of observations to the CDS on 26.06.2024 on 20 June 2024, for intervention pursuant to art. 3 quinquies Legislative Decree 152/2006, according to which the Regions can also, for example, adopt more restrictive forms of protection if particular situations in the territory require it, in order to ensure the minimum essential conditions for protecting the environment and human health, was reiterated; and the more specific request for state intervention in the event of damage or threat of environmental damage addressed to the Prefecture pursuant to art. 309 Legislative Decree 152/2006.
Finally, the Prefect and the Prefecture were thanked for the vigilant and constant control carried out in the area, also in light of the worrying declarations of some institutional bodies which would insinuate the suspicion that Crotone is already an uncontrolled destination for special and very dangerous waste”.
