The First Summer – Day 5-6 @ Bussoladomani Park (Lido Di Camaiore, 22-23/06/2024)

There are many festivals that are difficult to reach, millions of millions – The first summer he is perhaps the only one for whom I would do an intense journey of hope like few others, but let’s proceed in order.

Skipping the day beautifully with Peggy Gou (which we heard at Primavera Sound not even a month ago), we are preparing for the second weekend of the festival: the daredevils without a car (like myself) do so by allowing themselves a forty minute walk from the station to the Bussoladomani park, cursing the heat – I’ll stop for a specific: yes, the discounted taxi service, which however costs 15 euros per person each way, 5 if you can find two other people to share the expense with. In theory there should also have been rental bikes affiliated with the festival, but there was no sign of them – feedback from someone who has seen them is sincerely appreciated, even just to understand if they were actually useful and functioning. Thank you!

In any case, we arrive at the park, already exhausted but delighted by the spectacle of the Scots swim school: the frontwoman’s charisma is great Alice Johnsonthe influence of the Slowdive. Very good, equally appreciated (by us and by an enthusiastic audience).
Then it’s up to you Black Country, New Road: good, good, as usual they arouse great tenderness, even if we found them a little more limp than usual, especially compared to the set of TOdays 2022. Furthermore, this La Prima Estate concert was also quite short (six songs!), much to our disappointment – we hope that the next live show goes better than this one, because we know well what they are capable of doing, even without Isaac Wood.

We try to get a drink, and here a lot of fuss arises: no token, no bracelets but a third, obscure way: the rechargeable card. In short, to make purchases within the festival you need to collect this card, with an initial top-up of at least 20 euros. The promotion of 5 beers for 25 euros is nice, except that the card can only be topped up by 10 euros each time; to promote recycling, the possibility of receiving a free beer (or a bottle of water) is then offered for every 6 glasses/bottles returned. But is what I didn’t spend refundable, you might ask? Technically, yes. With two euros of contributions for bank expenses and a request via form to be sent in a limited window of time (two weeks from now), but it can be done. Of course, it’s convenient to be able to top up the card directly from your phone, but we still turn up our noses.

But let’s talk about much more pleasant matters, such as music. Michael Kiwanuka: sweet blues, very sweet but decisive, enriched by the co-presence of band and singers. Elegant and magical at the same time, a grandiose and intimate show at the same time, between spectacular lights and visuals of tender familiar scenes, such as the big eyes of a small child or the caresses of two lovers looking into each other’s eyes.
They are equally loving eyes with which we look Paolo Nutini, grand finale on Saturday: the inevitable “Isle of Sky”, “Acid Eyes”, “Take Me Take Mine” and “Last Request” (in an acoustic key, just to make us cry properly). At times he seemed to be singing some pieces a little reluctantly, at times he really gave his all, visibly excited to be on that stage – as he says later in a short speech in Italian, the artist said he was honored to be there, where his parents admired artists such as Mina And Renato Zero. “To all of you, great love and thanks to you, for everything”. A great artist, an even bigger heart.

Sunday, the last evening of this edition of La Prima Estate, is full of mosh pits, Wu-Lu aside – which still proved to be a great discovery, still a lot of work to do but it could surprise us in the future. Given the rain the previous night – and especially the sudden one that started right during the set Wu-Lu we find mud everywhere, but can this ever stop the desire to jump and push each other with our feet Shame in the background? Absolutely not! Charlie Steen he wriggles, incites the audience to no end, launches himself several times on the latter. We already knew it would be intense, but experiencing it was something else entirely. Worth seeing at least once in your life (possibly with less mud involved).

There is no shortage of surprises and various previews such as that of “Happenings”, the new project by Kasabian, out on July 5th: it is the first, after “The Alchemist’s Euphoria”, released two years ago now. Acclaimed by an enthralled audience and with sky-high energy, Sergio Pizzorno puts on a very respectable show, at times psychedelic, between ballets with laser pointers in their hands (imagine a sort of Wolverine with green rays of light instead of blades), delicious covers (“Breathe” by Prodigy!) bows of adoration to the spectators and various smoke bombs – brought by some boys in the audience, no one knows exactly how, also lit during the concert of Fontaines DC. In short, fire and flames on this Sunday of concerts, in every way.

And here they are, the most loved Irish of the moment: phenomenal, and that’s an understatement. They may have changed their look, they may be a little more colorful and bizarre, but their soul remains punk, free from everything and everyone: they belong to no one but themselves, as they sing wonderfully in “I Don’t Belong”. This and many other tracks were sung at the top of our lungs by the entire audience from start to finish, including the latest releases “Starburster” and the nostalgic “Favourite”, which make us look forward to the release of the album “Romance” with ever more impatience. , out August 23. Of this we also had the pleasure of hearing a preview of the homonymous “Romance”, the album’s forerunner track, which ends up in a sweet “Maybe romance is a place”. For us, this place is Lido di Camaiore, which we greet with a perfectly performed “I Love You”.

Of course, we loved the post-festival return a little less: if you don’t have the chance to make a trip, the only possible solutions are to stay overnight in a hotel or campsite that has an agreement with La Prima Estate, split the costs of a taxi or spend the night in company at the station, waiting for the first train (between 5 and 6 in the morning). The important thing is always to be able to return home and recharge your batteries, with a lot of emotion in your heart and even more smoke in your eyes.
