The Lower Brescia area confirms itself as a “fertile land” for landfills and the abandonment of waste. The last paragraph of an overly long story was written at Ghediwhere Arpa personnel seized (evidentiary) an area of 6 thousand square meters located along the road to Montichiari for a hazardous and non-hazardous waste deposit. Now the Municipality, through an ordinance, has also started the administrative procedure to ask the owner of the company to “restore the state of the places”.
Inside the perimeter there is really everything. As reported in Arpa’s report, Agency officials found 45 trailers, seven cars, 22 trucks and vans, 30 tractors, two motorcycles, scrap metal, tyres, refrigerators, washing machines, engines, various drums containing oil, demolition and construction. In this sort of open-air landfill, some old fire brigade vehicles also stand out.
The owner, among other things, will have to explain how all these vehicles arrived on the Ghedi land. In such a context, considering that the entire area of 6 thousand square meters is not paved there is a risk of soil pollution. This is one of the reasons that pushed the Municipality of Ghedi, led by the newly re-elected mayor Federico Casali, to issue an ordinance to put pressure on the property in order to remove the significant amount of waste evidently accumulated over time.
The risk, essentially, is that the already delicate environmental situation of the Bassa land will worsen. Therefore it was asked to «provide, in a short time, for the removal and disposal or recovery of waste, in order to restore the state of the places and the health and environmental safety conditions of the site». The categorical imperative is to act quickly, to prevent the subsoil of the area from being affected as well.
