Three out of three: the wind of the center-left is blowing again in Lazio. In the runoffs today, the coalitions led by the Democratic Party won three municipalities from the center-right out of three that were contestable. They elected the mayor in Civitavecchia, Palestrina and Tarquinia. This is the outcome of the second round of voting in the cities that on 8 and 9 June had no candidate who exceeded the 50% quorum to be elected immediately.

Already in the first round the center-left had achieved a clear result 3-1 winning in Monterotondo, Cassino and Veroli, leaving only Tivoli to the centre-right.

Center-left wind

Mayor Marco Piendibene

TO Civitavecchia the League flag is lowered: Marco Piendibene he is the new mayor with 54.48% of the votes. It was supported by aExpanded field‘ which he saw together Democratic party Green Left Alliance to which the 5 Star Movement who initially supported one of his candidates, obtaining 14%. Nothing to do for the centre-right candidate Massimiliano Grasso (FdI-Lega) who had finished ahead in the first round despite not being able to count on the support of Forza Italia which had instead opted for a different name.

Victory for the centre-left too in Palestrina: the new mayor is Igino Macchi. The Democratic Party and some civic lists supported him, obtaining 58.81% after having also closed the first round of voting ahead two weeks ago. He tears up the flag of the center-right which had governed the city until March 2023 before entering into crisis. The candidate of Forza Italia – We Moderates Giuseppe Cilia, according to the numbers, also received the approval of the candidate who had come third in the first round supported by Brothers of Italy And League.

There was no story to Tarquinia Where Francesco Sposetti becomes mayor with the 70.09%. It is a clear failure for the outgoing center-right led by Alessandro Giulivi.

Leodori: we win in 6 out of 7 municipalities

Daniele Leodori

Satisfied with the result the Regional Secretary of the Democratic Party of Lazio Daniele Leodori: “Even in the runoffs the Democratic Party and the center-left forces win, bringing home important municipalities in our territory. These results represent a great achievement for our party, which is once again growing and consolidating itself in the area”. For Leodori it was a vote which, added to that of two weeks ago, confirms the positive trend and a renewed trust on the part of voters towards the Democratic Party and the centre-left.Successes – highlights – which are the result of constant commitment and field work which has seen candidates of great value and competence as protagonists, supported by determined and passionate teams”.

The secretary of the Italian Left Lazio is on the same wavelength Danilo Cosentino. According to which “The excellent results of the second round of the administrative elections demonstrate that united, a barrier to the right is truly and effectively created even in difficult electoral competitions such as local elections“.

De Angelis: I’m not surprised

Francesco De Angelis

For the Pd president of Lazio Francesco De Angelis that of the runoff is an extraordinary result but which does not surprise us, because it is the result of constant work carried out with passion and concreteness by our secretary Elly Schlein and by the entire Democratic Party”. De Angelis recalls the results achieved in Florence, Bari, Perugia, Campobasso “but also many other cities, with some exceptional results marking very high percentages obtained by our candidates”.

The analysis of the president of the Democratic Party is that “the center-left wins this round of voting by a landslide, with a Democratic Party that emerges from this electoral competition stronger, united and ready to be the protagonist of a coalition project which involves other centre-left forces and civic movements”. Remember the result of two weeks ago at the European elections where many imagined a Democratic Party in disintegration and below 20% while the polls said very different things.

But above all it highlights the numbers with which the centre-left won again two weeks ago in the province of Frosinone, regaining Cassino And Veroli thanks to coalitions led by mayors Enzo Salera And Germano Caperna: “It is the victory of coalitions that bring together progressive parties and an increasingly appreciated civility. Let us now continue with this step, convinced that it will certainly lead us to new important victories”.
