Have you ever wondered how many liters of water your washing machine and dishwasher consume? Even just keeping the tap open while brushing your teeth wastes tens of liters of water. Let’s discover all the daily consumption and the small actions to reduce it.
How many times a day do we use water? Some everyday actions are so automatic that we no longer even stop to think about them how much water we are using. Let’s see together the daily water consumption and what we can do about it reduce waste. Italy, in fact, ranks at second place in the European Union for the withdrawal of water for drinking use per capita, 153 cubic meters per year: most other countries only take between 45 and 90 cubic meters.
Most of the water consumed by each Italian (220 liters a day!) goes to the shower and bathroom (39%), followed by the washing machine, dishwasher and household cleaning and finally for watering plants and gardens.
here are the consumption in detail:
- dishwasher: 18-30 l. every wash;
- washing machine: 60-90 l. every wash;
- cassette toilet flush: 8 l.;
- brush your teeth with the tap open: 30 l.;
- shaving with the tap open: 70 l.;
- a 10 minute shower: 120 l.
The precautions that we can adopt are simple but effective: install jet barriers on the taps and always close them when not needed, take shorter showers, only use appliances with a full load. Or you can find a way to reuse the water: you can use the water to clean fruit and vegetables to water the plants or collect the shower water while waiting for it to become hot to wash the floors.
