Everything changes in the Rai canon, this is truly the last time

The Rai license fee it is a television subscription fee. Anyone who owns a television set must pay it and it must be paid once a year and only once per family, provided that all members of the family unit reside in the same house. This fee must also be paid by those who, although resident abroad, own a home in Italy where there is a television.

Since 2016, the legislation has introduced the presumption of possession of television: if you have a user for the supply of electricity in the house where you live, then you must also pay the fee since it can be assumed that there is also a television. The amount, however, is the same for everyone and amounts to 90 euros per year. Exceptions, however, are televisions placed in public places and commercial establishments.

In these hours, however, everything is changing regarding this tax which, in Italy, is causing a lot of discussion: it is absolutely the last time, starting tomorrow everything will change forever.

Rai license fee, it will never be like this again

To request exemption from payment of the Rai license fee you still have time for one week. The applications, in fact, must be sent by 30 June: this possibility is granted only to some citizens such as, for example, those over 75 with a low income, taxpayers who own a user account who do not own a television, military personnel and foreign diplomats. In the first case, that of elderly people over 75, the ISEE must not exceed 8 thousand euros and there must be no cohabitants with their own income in the home, with the exception of carers, housekeepers and domestic servants.

For diplomats, consular employees, officials of international organizations and soldiers of non-Italian citizenship, however, since starting from 2016 the fee is charged directly in the electricity bill, to obtain the exemption must submit the substitutive declaration.

What should those who don’t have a TV do?

However, in the event that a normal citizen does not want to pay the Rai license fee because he does not own a TV, he too must submit the substitutive declaration of non-detention. The form must be downloaded from the Revenue Agency website and filled out in its entirety, then presented at an Agency office or even online, via the web application. Alternatively, it must be sent by registered mail without an envelope, attaching a valid document in the package, to the address: Revenue Agency – Provincial Directorate I of Turin – TV License Office – PO Box 22 – 10121 Turin.
