Lucanian fencer Francesca Palumbo wins gold in the women’s foil team competition at the European Championships in Basel 2024.
The women’s foil Dream Team, composed of Arianna Errigo, Martina Favaretto, Francesca Palumbo and Alice Volpi, won the gold medal in the team competition of the European Championships in Basel 2024. In the final, Italy dominated Poland with a score of 45-27, thus obtaining the eleventh medal for the country in this edition of the Championships (5 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze).

Led by coach Stefano Cerioni, the Italian team also achieved the mathematical certainty of first place in the world team ranking, ensuring the role of number 1 seed in the Paris Olympic Games draw.
The path to gold began with a victory in the quarter-finals against Austria 45-36, where the Lucanian Francesca Palumbo shone with a positive balance of four hits in her three fractions. In the semifinal against Hungary, the team triumphed with a clear 45-17. The final against Poland confirmed the third consecutive victory at the European Championships, after Antalya 2022 and Krakow 2023.
“We have formed a compact group that helps each other and never gives up. In this spirit we look forward to the next race with ever more confidence,” declared Francesca Palumbo, already focused on the next Olympic Games in Paris.
The next edition of the European Championships will take place in Italy in Genoa from 14 to 19 June 2025.
