Renzo Miconi Rocchi, who was the man who died in an accident with an Ama vehicle while returning from work

Renzo Miconi Rocchi, 56 years old, is the latest victim on the streets of Rome and its province. That’s 74 in total from the start of the year. Only 48 hours earlier, another accident had caused the death of Valerio Marziali, 34 years old, an AMA employee, in via Casilina near via Tor Tre Teste. Passionate about vintage Mini Coopers, comics and motorbikes, Miconi Rocchi worked as an employee in a handling company operating at Leonardo da Vinci airport. Vintage cars and motorcycles were his main passion.

On the morning of Sunday 23 June he was returning home, in the Alessandrino area, after working. He was walking along via di Casa Calda, in Torre Maura, near via Pietro Belon when he collided with an Ama ‘shark’ on duty for the collection round. Renzo Miconi Rocchi was thrown from the seat of his scooter, a Honda Silver Wing.

When help arrived there was already nothing left to do. The body was transferred to Tor Vergata hospital. The Ama employee was also taken to the polyclinic to ascertain his condition. There he was subjected to alcohol and drug tests and the results are expected in the next few hours. In the meantime, the municipal waste management company has expressed its condolences.

“Technicians and officials are already providing maximum collaboration to the competent authorities responsible for ascertaining the dynamics of the events. The vehicle has been seized for the necessary checks”, Ama said in a note.
