WhatsApp groups, Facebook message boards and Instagram stories – to name a few – have been flooded in recent hours with shares of a very specific request: the donation, at the Di Venere hospital in Carbonara, of group 0 blood with negative Rh. One of the rarest types to find. The circumstance, verified by Telebari, is truthful and the emergency concerns a boy of just 18 years old, who was the victim of a road accident, but also his cousin, who was also seriously injured in the head-on crash between a car and a motorbike. The first is in intensive care, stable but still in critical conditions. The second, already operated on, is hospitalized in surgery.
To further confirm the urgency, therefore, is an operator of the hospital’s transfusion center who, a few hours after the social appeal, let it be known that various local associations have also spread the alarm, fortunately finding a congruous turnout of donors . However, especially in situations like this, blood is never enough. “We need your help”, we read in one of the many posts that continue to make the rounds on the internet. “Yesterday I broke the bank for the transfusion center for him. I used the second to last bag of negative zero available. We are in an emergency. And not just for the two boys”, reads another message forwarded several times in the group chats.
In this sense, then, the Bari section of the ‘Fidas Pugliese blood donors’ association also takes advantage of the opportunity to reiterate the concept by spreading a note, again on social media, to encourage people to donate, in any circumstance: “Summer is forceful entry into our daily lives. Heat, sea, travel… But it also brought the first appeals for blood shortages. It’s not about one blood type, it’s not about donating for an acquaintance or for a single accident. The need for blood and plasma is daily, as is our commitment. Donate and save a life”, concludes Fidas.
