Since yesterday the Blue Flag has been flying over all the beach establishments on the Fondi coast

FONDI – The traditional ceremony of awarding the Blue Flag to the seaside operators of the Fondano coast was held yesterday in the “Luigi Einaudi” council chamber.

What is essentially a bureaucratic requirement has turned into a precious opportunity for dialogue between the administration and professionals as well as a tool to update citizens on the latest news relating to the coast and the summer season.

Conducting the work was the vice mayor Vincenzo Carnevale who brought the greetings of the mayor Beniamino Maschietto and thanked all the beach operators who, with their presence, showed themselves sensitive and interested in the development of the coast, in the prestigious recognition given to the Municipality of Fondi and, in general, to the work aimed at promoting coastal development.

«What has been awarded to us – Carnevale recalled – is the fourth Blue Flag for the Municipality of Fondi, every year we try to consolidate the result achieved with some small but important improvements. A job which, I am happy to note, is being done by the Municipality but also by beach operators with new services, new equipment and even interesting environmental awareness initiatives promoted independently. This year, we wanted to underline the importance that the coast has for this administration also with the naming of the program of summer events, A sea of events in Fondi, which includes many entertainment initiatives as well as environmental awareness”.

Carnevale then illustrated the calendar of the Fruit Summer Funds, promoted by the Department of Productive Activities represented by Stefania Stravato in collaboration with the MOF, and announced the imminent installation of a new walkway as communicated by the Councilor for Public Works Antonio Ciccarelli on the sidelines of the conference. The latter access was initially unplanned but at the end of the maintenance work was possible thanks to a small deficit in internal resources. Finally, the very recent news of the purchase of a new traffic light was made known which will finally allow the completion of the cycle path at Salto di Fondi as well as the intersection with the Flacca in complete safety.

The Environment Councilor Fabrizio Macaro announced the entry into operation of the first two of thirteen charging stations for electric vehicles in the Tumulito and Capratica car parks, the activation of a bike sharing service which allows the free rental of ten bicycles of the Municipality of Fondi as well as the details of the 2024 environmental awareness initiative, Beach Clean Up 2024.

In fact, for five Mondays there will be a gazebo set up by De Vizia Transfer in various points of the coast where those who undertake the collection of cigarette butts or microplastics will receive a free beach towel “Fondi Bandiera Blu 2024”.

The prize will be won by the first 20 people who, each day, give a 50 cl bottle filled with butts or microplastics collected on the Fondane beaches.

Macaro also announced live the achievement of the “Sea Turtle Friendly Municipality” recognition, issued by Legambiente for joining the “Life Turtlenest” project and collected in Rome by the mayor’s delegate, Rita Di Fazio.

In this regard, the councilor for State Property, Claudio Spagnardi, shared with those present the exciting experience of the release into the sea of a specimen of Caretta Caretta, saved by the volunteers of the Tartalazio regional network following an injury, as well as the acceptance of a nest recently found in a neighboring municipality and transferred to Capratica as a site deemed suitable for the protection, until the day of hatching, of the numerous eggs laid. He also highlighted the details of the collective rescue plan, one of the most complex on the Pontine coast.

The vice president of the Province and municipal councilor, Vincenzo Mattei. illustrated the details of the tourism promotion campaign launched by the Via Costa Authority which will offer the Fondi coast a showcase on the A1 near the busiest service stations on the motorway network. The president of the Pro Loco Gaetano Orticelli instead spoke about the Punti Blu, located at the Castle and in via Gavio Nauta, and the importance of offering tourists not only services but also experiences.

During the ceremony, in addition to the awarding of the Blue Flags to 31 dealers and 17 rental companies in the presence of the councilors Giulio Cesare di Manno, Franco Carnevale and Jessica Di Trocchio, the “L’oasi di Tahiti”, the sixteenth job chair purchased by the Municipality of Fondi.
