A fire, yet another, broke out this afternoon, Friday 21 June. The alarm went off around 5pm when some people noticed a thick column of black smoke rising from the roof of the block of the former city hospital closed for almost 15 years and abandoned to itself.

In a few minutes several fire brigade vehicles arrived on site (with the fire engine from Vimercate; the fire engine, the ladder truck and the tanker from Monza and the rescue truck from Desio), the local police and the Carabinieri. The firefighters managed to enter the section of the former hospital and reach the roof of the main structure.

Here they ascertained that the flames had originated from motors of old systems on the roof. In a few minutes they got the better of the fire. The causes of the fire are currently unknown.
Yet another episode in a situation of total degradation and abandonment
This is, as mentioned, yet another episode of this type (the previous one only a week ago) which adds to a situation of absolute degradation and abandonment. A place that has also become a shelter for stragglers and homeless people who bivouac inside. There were also many vandalism raids. Waiting for the integrated intervention plan, which involves the sale of the area and the demolition of the old hospital, to finally begin after 15 years of waiting.
A meeting between the mayor and the general director of Asst
Precisely following last week’s fire, the mayor of Vimercate Francesco Cereda in recent days contacted the general director of Asst Brianza (owner of the former hospital), Carlo Tersalvi, asking for a meeting, set for next July 2nd, precisely to talk about the safety issue of the old hospital and understand what actions Asst intends to implement quickly to make the area safe, at least temporarily, while waiting for the sale procedure to be completed.
