“I want to go back to work.” A meeting has been scheduled with the rector of the University of Urbino

Urbino, 22 June 2024 – “Ready, is the Rest of the Pug? ” Yes, go ahead. “I am Luciano Lattanzi. Today you wrote about me, but who told you that I will go to Urbino to ask for the pension?” She, she told us. “No, that’s not true. I’ll go to work“. Ah, this is good news then. Then “click”. Phone hung up. But yesterday morning, the ‘ghost’ researcher made another phone call. The rector of Urbino revealed it Giorgio Calcagnini: “Dr. Luciano Lattanzi called the secretariat a little while ago. He wants to meet me as soon as possible to establish his job classification. Finally. We will see each other next Tuesday but first I will involve the University’s law firm.”

The rector of the University of Urbino Giorgio Calcagnini speaks about the researcher Luciano Lattanzi, 62 years old, of Montecopiolo who has no longer worked or shown up at the University since 2003, who has however continued to pay him regularly with a salary of 2500/3000 euros per month.

It took 21 years and an article by Carlino to ‘recover’ the 62-year-old researcher who won a competition indefinitely environmental chemistry in 1997 but just six years later he stopped going to the laboratory and doing research. From that moment on, his career simply took place at home Montecopiolo. He himself explained the reason to us yesterday: “I have made several projects that they never financed me. I also asked for a computer which was not given to me. So I didn’t go there anymore because they wouldn’t let me work. I felt bullied in a certain way.”

Rector Calcagnini says: “These statements by Dr. Lattanzi are simply devoid of any foundation. We are not aware that he has ever presented research projects that were later rejected by the department. We don’t know that he ever asked funds to do research and that he was denied, we do not know that he ever asked for a computer. In fact, we have PCs that come out of our ears, go figure. It is proven that five or six years ago, the director of the department at the time had sent him a registered letter to summon him. He had no answers whatsoever.”

The problem is that no one he got worried to do something else to end the long absence. The rector adds: “I will meet him together with the management and our lawyer to try to reconstruct his history of absences and lack of productivity and to offer him a new professional opportunity. If this time too he is not interested in doing research, then we will reach the point of dismissal. The University should have moved sooner, there is no doubt. We do it now.”
