For some days now, a plan of interventions to protect public safety has been underway in areas at high risk of fires, set up by the Municipal Administration to deal with areas subject to the possibility of flames spreading due to unkempt vegetation.

Fire alarm: following a precise indication from Mayor Trantino

The municipal Landscape and Urban Green Service of the municipal department headed by Salvo Tomarchio has surveyed the areas most at risk distributed across various areas of the urban fabric for a total of 96 areas of San Giovanni Galermo, Librino – Villaggio Sant’Agata and Monte Po. Priority was given to those located close to buildings or adjacent to parking areas, where the risk to public safety was classified as high.

The company that was awarded the work is Intercontinentale Servizio Igiene SRL of Messina

For a contractual amount of €209,671.62 which, to date, has carried out a large part of the work in the Librino area.

The works are carried out with the coordination of the maintenance department led by Giovanni Petralia

Which also made municipal vehicles available to provide support and carry out clean-up operations. Carried out in some critical points of the city in via Fossa della Creta, via Acquicella Porto and other sites.

The preventative works, which are taking place for the first time in Catania, will continue for about twenty days

They involve the cutting of all existing vegetation for at least 10 meters in width, on the boundaries identified as most at risk of the mapped sites.
